Tuesday 29 November 2022: When you look a Marja-Liisa’s Instagram feed, you’ll not know she has only been sewing her own clothes or the last 2 and a half years.

In 2019 Marja-Lisa found The Avid Seamstress patterns at Liberty in London and that is when she began to think about sewing her own clothes. At the start of the first lockdown, and after watching a few episodes of the Great British Sewing Bee, she decided to try sewing clothes.

When Marja-Lisa first tried to sew her first dress, she used a very old bedsheet to learn the construction process involved before she cut into her Liberty of London fabric.

Having instructions that help you develop your skills like she experienced with The Avid Seamstress patterns really motivated Marja-Lisa to sew and continue to build her sewing skills.

Marja-Lisa finds that she’s learnt so much about Instagram and sewing by following the SewOver50 account.
