Tuesday 4 June 2024: Dell is an avid sewist, a SewOver50 follower and a very supportive listener of the podcast.
Dell is a classically trained vocalist… similar to an opera singer.
She learned to sew from her grandmothers and Dell discusses the value of the sewing teaching by Mary Brooks Picken.
Mary Brooks Picken (August 6, 1886, Arcadia, KS – March 8, 1981, Williamsport, PA) was an American author of 96 books on needlework, sewing, and textile arts. Her Fashion Dictionary was published by Funk and Wagnalls in 1957.
Dell saved lots of money sewing her dresses for vocal performances using Bemberg lining because it was more affordable than silk fabric was.
I hope you enjoy Dell’s podcast because she’s just like you and me. We enjoy sewing for ourselves and shares her sewing with us on Instagram.
Thank you Dell for always providing your supportive feedback to my little sewing podcast.
[…] You’ll never guess what I’ve been up to. I was invited to have a chat with a dear Aussie sewing podcaster, Maria Theoharous, and this was the result. […]

Thank you for the invitation to meet & talk with you, Maria! I was dubious at first, and I’m very grateful for your patience! You truly made the whole experience comfortable, and it felt normal to chat with you.
To anyone who might receive an invitation to talk with Maria: Go right ahead and accept. You might discover a whole new way of thinking about yourself and your sewing experiences. (Plus, you get to meet and talk with a lovely sewist!)

You’re such a lovely person Dell.
I hope to always be able to speak/interview sewists as we’re all linked by our love of sewing.
